Give a Damn Give a Can

Hi everyone Yes its time - and I need your help.

As you all know this year this project is huge - with the potential to help probably thousands of people. I need people over the course of 3 weekends - and I know that is a huge commitment - but I don't expect people to be there every weekend. If you can help out for a couple of hours here and there I would be very grateful.

Firstly Sunday 24th November - to man the Give a Damn Give a Can collection points Stockland Shopping Centre Centre court Smithfield Shopping centre outside Woolworth's Cairns Central outside Coles and Bi Lo We need at least people at each of these venues at the following time slots 8 - 11 am 11 am - 2 pm 2 - 4 pm

Secondly Saturday 30th November - to sort the donations into categories Stockland Shopping Centre - opposite Police Beat 8 am - around 12 noon We need probably about a dozen people for this.

If we have too much food for this one venue - Michael Plunkett has also offered the Scout hall at Mooroobool - so we may need people there as well - but will let you know.

Thirdly Saturday and Sunday 6th and 7th December (I think these dates are right) PACKING AND DELIVERING - AS MANY AS POSSIBLE!!! Venue - Stockland Shopping Centre opposite Police Beat - and perhaps Scout Hall at Mooroobool.

Please start - if you haven't started already - collecting photocopy boxes - and bring them to Stockland for the packing.

Please think about when you are able to lend a hand. Don't forget your friends and family too - the more the merrier - and faster it is done. The rosters will be at the meeting on Friday.

Thank you Sandy

NATURAL JUSTICE, but not the police, has caught up with two men in South Australia who killed a rabbit with high explosive.

According to a free magazine distributed to Australian expatriates in London, police are looking for the two who apparently tied a stick of gelignite to the bunny and lit the fuse before setting the terrified animal free.

"The trick backfired," the magazine reports, "when the rabbit took cover under their four-wheel drive vehicle. The men escaped but their $20 000 utility was wrecked." (16 August 1984)

CHRISTOPHER HOPE was disappointed by the warning he spotted on a gallon container of the laboratory disinfectant Hibitane. "Avoid contact with brain," it told him, thereby spoiling his plans for a fun-filled afternoon drilling holes in his skull and pouring disinfectant into them. (4 July 1998)

THE RED LION pub at Lacock in Wiltshire offers whisky-flavoured condoms for sale. The small print at the bottom of the machine advises: "Warning-Do not drive while using this product." (16 May 1998)

YEP NOTES

The 4th, 5th and 6th October 2002 was Orientation weekend for Inbounds and Outbounds. Thanks to all those who participated or were involved - it was very much appreciated.

It was nice to meet both groups (the new inbounds and 2003 outbounds). It is certainly a busy weekend covering a lot of ground, preparing students for their year of exchange. ·

Current outbounds are now in the last quarter and trying to squeeze in as much as they can into their last few months. ·

A reminder for Clubs to approach schools (Year 11) at the end of the year with details of the Youth Exchange Programme for 2004. Best of luck to all the seniors who have exams in the next couple of weeks.

Orientation for the 10 New Zealand matched exchange students will be held on the 1st December 2002 in Mareeba.
