Titan A.E.

This superior, under promoted, animated, Sc-Fi adventure film probably won't last too long in the multiplexes. Hurry in to see it. If you miss it, get it out on video.

It's 3028 and humans have got too smart for the nasty Drej, who are brilliantly blue energy monsters. They blow up our planet reducing the few human survivors to being space scavengers. Young Cale (voiced by Matt Damon) is rescued from the Drej by Korso (Bill Pulman) and his crew, who include characters voiced by Bill Pulman, John Leguizamo, Janeane Garofallo and Drew Barrymore.

Cale unknowingly holds the secret to the humans survival and the Drej desperately want him dead and his secret with him. Titan A.E. in the tradition of Star Wars and countless Sc-Fi comics and novels, unravels intrigue, adventure, humour and romance.

Titan A.E. works very well indeed. It looks great, to the point of sometimes stirring the imagination to awe. An extended scene amongst huge floating ice shards is thrilling as is a chase amongst dangerous hydrogen bubbles. Animation allows film makers to be fantastic, to extend their dreams for us to see.

Titan A.E. doesn't get very philosophical, it's pure space opera, but it still works the magic very effectively.

I just wish that the Drej were'nt provided with subtitles. I think we could have guessed what those nasty blue bastards were saying,.
