Prisoner Of The Mountains
Prisoner Of The Mountains is an austere and
powerfully told tale from Russia. It's based on a
Tolstoy story which was adapted and set in present day
Chechnya.
Prisoner Of The Mountains was voted Best Film at the
Sydney Film Festival in June and also won the Critics
Award and Audience Award at Cannes. It was nominated for
the Best Foreign Language Film at last years Academy
Awards.
Two Russian soldiers are captured and held for ransom
by a rebel who wants to trade them with the Russians for
his imprisoned son.
Prisoner Of The Mountains was filmed 300 kilometres
from Chechnya amongst truly amazing scenery. The story
is told in a very simple, direct manner which at times
becomes a little too simplistic, but that same quality
also adds to the drama.
Prisoner Of The Mountains is as memorable as you'd
expect from a film that has gathered such auspicious
awards and nominations. European films of this type often
have a dour authenticity born of the film maker's
experiences.
